The Canadian Centre for Food Integrity (“CCFI”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) operates Canada’s Food System website https://www.canadasfoodsystem.ca/ (the “Website”) and is committed to protecting your privacy.

 

This “Privacy Policy” explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard the information of individuals that visit our Website (collectively, “users”, “you”, or “your”). By using our Website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

 

As encouraged by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”), the commentary in this Privacy Policy has been drafted to reflect privacy issues specific to CCFI. We will continue to review this Privacy Policy to make sure that it remains current with exceptions, changing technologies, industry standards and applicable laws. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy, a revised version will be posted on our Website. In the event any modification is material, we will provide you with reasonable notice before such modifications take effect. Your continued use of the Service thereafter constitutes your acceptance of such modifications.

The following definitions shall have the same meaning regardless of whether they appear in singular or in plural.

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information, in any form, collected, used or disclosed by CCFI through the provision of the Service. This Privacy Policy does not impose any limits on CCFI’s collection, use or disclosure of the following information:

  • personal information that is not collected, used or disclosed, for commercial purposes;
  • non-personally identifiable information; and
  • Business Contact Information.

The application of this Privacy Policy is subject to the requirements and provisions of PIPEDA, and any other applicable legislation or regulation. If you reside in certain Canadian provinces, such as British Columbia, Alberta or Québec, then the substantially similar privacy law of your jurisdiction will apply to our handling of your personal information, rather than PIPEDA. In that case, reference in this Privacy Policy to PIPEDA will be deemed to include your jurisdiction’s substantially similar privacy law.

 

Information We Collect

Except as set out in this Privacy Policy, we only collect personal information about you with your knowledge and consent. We may collect and process all or some of the following information about you, when you voluntarily provide it to us through the Website:

  • First and last name;
  • Contact information, including email address and phone number;
  • Province or territory of residence;
  • Postal Code; and
  • Any other personal information you may provide in any comments or submissions related to our Contests.

If you participate in any Contest, we may collect additional information specific to that Contest. When you participate in a Contest, we will make it clear what additional personal information we are collecting, at that time (if any). Each Contest will have its own rules and requirements, which will be provided at that time. Contest submissions may be publicly displayed if you provide consent during the entry process.

 

We may also collect certain information automatically when you visit the Website, such as:

  • IP address;
  • Browser type;
  • Device information; and
  • Pages visited and time spent on the site.

  • For campaign-related content (such as public messages of support), data may be retained for the duration of the campaign and archived for up to 24 months, unless you request removal earlier.

  • Withdraw your consent for the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information, at any time, subject to reasonable notice and applicable contractual restrictions; and
  • Unsubscribe from communications using the link provided in our emails.

CCFI may advise you in advance if there is a minimal charge to conduct a search of our records and will respond within 30 days, or advise that the request for access is subject to an extension as authorized by PIPEDA.

 

To protect your privacy, you may be required to provide sufficient identification, in order to permit us to account for the existence, use and disclosure of certain personal information and to authorize access to such information. Any such information will only be used for this purpose. If we are unable to provide access to all or part of your personal information, we will explain our reasons for such a decision.

 

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your personal data. However, no transmission over the Internet or storage method is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
